Guest Speakers 1/12/2010

This past Tuesday our class had guest speakers. Bryan Dawson, Valerie and Carl Blake were our guest speakers these people we in the media, and communication was a big part of their lives. The first guest speaker was Bryan Dawson who is a radio personality for K97.5, he also started a media company, Chase Media, that hosts and sponsors fashion shows and parties. He talked about how if you wanted to be anything in life that you need to work hard, he said that sometimes when your grades dont reflect you, your work ethic should. The next speakers were Valerie and Carl Blake they were in Sales and Marketing, and owned their own company called Artful Greetings. They both had history in media, Carl worked in radio for 25 years. One quote that really stuck in my mind that Valerie said was "Chance favors the prepared mind. All of the guest speakers stressed the importance of a good work ethic, they all stated that if you wanted a job, internship, etc. in mass comm especially that you would have to dedicate time and effort.

Why am I taking Mass Media and Society???

I am taking Mass Media and Society because I believe it's required for my major and because my advisor signed me up for this course. But Im actually not sure if this is an required class because I am the only Art major in this class everyone else is a Mass Communications major. But so far I am enjoying this class, it seems as if it's going to be an interesting semester.

Obituary Assignment

I was recently given an assignment to write my own Obituary. In this assignment you were suppose to look into your future, your life interests and goals, your obituary should show your accomplishments up until your death. Now when I first heard about this assignment I thought to myself "I am not going to write about myself dying, nor do I even want to think about it," but I put all the opposition on the back burner and did the assignment. And I'm glad I did this assignment taught me that if I want to acheive all the goals that I stated in my obituary that I would have to work, and work hard, and not give up no matter what. It showed me that even though you live your life for yourself, you ultimately live it for others, meaning that to be remembered you need to leave behind a legacy, by helping others, besides yourself. This assignment was definately a learning experience.
